What is Sweet?

Sweet is flavor that makes your mouth happy, like when you eat candy or ice cream.

Imagine you have a cookie in your hand. When you bite into it, and it tastes good, really good, that’s sweet. It's like the cookie is giving your tongue a little hug.

What Makes Something Sweet?

Some foods are naturally sweet, like fruit. A banana or an apple can feel sweet on your tongue, just like candy. But sometimes food isn’t sweet at first, like bread. But if you put sugar in it, then it becomes sweet.

How We Know It's Sweet

Your tongue has special spots called taste buds, and some of them are made to tell when something is sweet. When you eat a piece of cake or drink soda, those taste buds send messages to your brain, and that’s why you feel happy and say, “This is sweet!”

So, sweet is just a word we use for things that make our mouths feel good, like the end of a fun day, with a treat in hand.
