What is sweating?

Sweating is your body’s way of staying cool when it gets hot.

How It Works

Your body has tiny little sweat glands all over your skin, like mini factories that make liquid to help you stay comfortable. When you’re playing outside on a sunny day or running around at the park, your body starts to heat up, just like how a chocolate bar melts in the sun.

The Cool Down Process

Your brain senses the heat and sends a message to those tiny factories: “Time to work!” They start making sweat and sending it to the surface of your skin. When the sweat evaporates, which is like when water disappears from a puddle after a while, it takes some heat with it, and you feel cooler.

It’s kind of like when you step out of the shower on a warm day, you feel refreshed because the water is drying up around you. That’s your body doing its best to keep you happy and not too hot!
