Surround is when something completely wraps around another thing, like a cozy blanket that covers you from head to toe.
Imagine you have a toy box in your room. Now, if you put that toy box inside a big closet, the closet surrounds the toy box, it’s all around it, on every side. You can’t see the toy box anymore unless you open the closet door.
Like a Hug from All Sides
Think of surround like getting hugged by your friends at once, one on the left, one on the right, one in front, and one behind. That’s what it means to be completely wrapped around by something else.
Or think about a circle of people standing around you during a game of tag, they’re all around you, surrounding you like a wall. You can’t run past them easily!
So next time you see something that's all around another thing, remember: that’s surround, just like your toy box in the closet or being hugged from all sides!
Examples
- A movie theater with speakers all around you makes the sounds feel like they're coming from everywhere, that's surround sound!
- Imagine being in the middle of a forest where birds are chirping all around you, that's a natural surround experience.
