What is Subnetting?

Imagine you have one big toy box full of all your favorite toys, but it’s too crowded to find what you need quickly. Subnetting is like dividing that big toy box into smaller boxes, each with its own group of toys so it's easier to find and manage them.

Think about a neighborhood: everyone lives in the same area, but they’re divided into streets and blocks to make things simpler. Subnetting works the same way for computers, instead of one big network with all the devices, you split it into smaller networks called subnets, like separate toy boxes.

If you have a lot of friends playing in your backyard, but only some need to talk to each other at once, dividing them into groups helps them communicate better without everyone getting confused. Similarly, subnets let computers talk more efficiently within their own group, and send messages across groups when needed, like sharing toys with neighbors!
