What is storage?

Storage is like having a special box where you keep your toys so you can find them later.

Imagine you have a toy box in your room. When you play with your blocks, cars, or dolls, you put them back in the toy box so they don’t get lost. That’s what storage does on a computer, it keeps all the things you use, like pictures, videos, and games.

How Storage Works

Think of storage as having many little pockets inside that big toy box. Each pocket can hold one toy. On a computer, each pocket is called a byte, and together they make up everything you see and use.

When you want to play with your favorite car, you look in the toy box (or on your screen) and take it out. When you’re done, you put it back, just like when you save a game or a picture on your computer.

Sometimes storage can get full if you have too many toys. That’s why you might need a bigger toy box, or more storage space, so you can keep all your favorites without having to throw any away.
