What is stone?

Stone is like a super strong block made from tiny pieces that are stuck together really tightly.

What Stone Feels Like

Imagine you have a big pile of sand, but instead of being loose and easy to move, the grains are all glued together with invisible sticky stuff. That’s stone, it's hard, doesn’t bend easily, and feels solid when you touch it, like the floor under your feet or the bricks in a wall.

How Stone is Made

Stone starts as something soft deep inside the Earth, kind of like how clay can be squishy at first. Over time, heat and pressure, think of it like being squeezed really hard for a very long time, turn that soft stuff into stone, making it tough and strong.

You might see this when you look at rocks in a river or on the side of a mountain; they’ve been shaped by water and wind, just like how your hands can shape clay. Stone is all around us, hiding in plain sight!
