What is stimuli?

Stimuli are things that make you react, just like when something fun happens and you jump or laugh.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy, maybe a ball. When you kick it, it bounces back to you. That bounce is a stimulus, and your reaction, like catching it or giggling, is how you respond.

What Makes Something a Stimulus?

A stimulus can be anything that causes a change in you or something else. It doesn’t have to be big or exciting, sometimes it’s as simple as the sound of your mom calling you for dinner, or the feeling of your favorite blanket against your skin.

Examples All Around You

  • When you hear a loud noise, like a dog barking, that's a stimulus.
  • When you touch something hot, like a stove, and pull your hand away, that is also a stimulus!

Stimuli are all around you, working quietly to make you move, think, or feel. They’re the things that start action in the world!
