What is speed?

Speed is how fast something moves from one place to another.

Imagine you're on a scooter, and your friend is on a bicycle. Both of you start at the same spot and race to the park. If your friend gets there first, that means they had more speed, they covered the distance faster than you did.

What does "how fast" really mean?

Let’s say you ride your scooter for 10 seconds to get to the park. Your friend rides their bike in just 5 seconds. Even though both of you went the same path, your friend moved more quickly, so they had a higher speed.

Think about it like this: if you have a toy car and you push it gently, it goes slowly. But if you give it a big push, it zooms ahead, that’s faster speed!

Speed is just a way to describe how much distance something covers in a certain amount of time. So next time you're racing your friend or watching a car zoom by, remember: that's speed in action!
