What is speech?

Speech is when people use sounds to share ideas and talk to each other.

Speech happens when you make sounds with your mouth, like when you say "hello" or "I want a cookie." These sounds come from your voice, which is made by air moving through your lungs, trachea, vocal cords, and mouth. It's like blowing bubbles, but instead of soap, you're making words!

Your lungs are like a balloon, when you breathe out, they push air up through your trachea (like a straw) to your vocal cords. These are like little rubber bands that vibrate when the air hits them, creating sound. Then, your tongue, lips, and teeth shape those sounds into words.

Speech is how we tell stories, ask for help, laugh, and sing. It's like a special kind of language, but instead of writing it down, you say it out loud, just like talking to a friend!
