What is sociology?

Sociology is like studying how people play together in a big playground.

Imagine you're at recess, and everyone has their own way of playing, some kids like to run around, others like to sit and draw, and some are always trying to make new friends. Sociology looks at why people do these things, how they affect each other, and what happens when the rules of the playground change.

Sociology is all about groups, families, schools, cities, even whole countries. It’s like watching how kids in one class work together on a project or how everyone in the school reacts when the bell rings for lunch.

Sometimes, people don’t get along at recess, maybe there's a disagreement over who gets to be captain of the team. Sociology helps us understand why those disagreements happen and how they can be solved so everyone can play nicely again.
