What is Social pressure?

Social pressure is when people around you try to make you act or feel a certain way because they're all doing it together.

Imagine you’re playing in the park with your friends, and everyone starts jumping rope. You really want to join in, but you’re not sure how to do it, maybe you think you’ll look silly if you mess up. That’s social pressure, it's like being gently pulled by a group of kids who all want to play together.

What Makes Social Pressure Happen?

Sometimes people feel the need to fit in with their friends or classmates, so they might do things they don’t really like just to be part of the group. It’s like when you’re at lunch and everyone is eating pizza, but you only brought a sandwich, sometimes you’ll eat the pizza too because it feels good to be included.

Social Pressure Can Be Friendly

Social pressure isn't always bad! Sometimes it's fun, like when your friends all decide to play tag, and you're excited to join in. It’s just people being together and having a good time, even if they’re not sure what comes next.
