What is Sleep fragmentation?

Sleep fragmentation is when your sleep gets broken up into short pieces instead of being one long rest.

Imagine you're taking a nap on your favorite pillow, but every few minutes, someone gently taps your shoulder, tap, tap, tap, and each time, you wake up just a little bit. That’s like sleep fragmentation! Instead of having one peaceful nap, you’re getting lots of tiny naps with little breaks in between.

Like a Broken Train

Think of your sleep as a train traveling from Dreamland Station to Wake-Up City. If everything goes smoothly, the train rides all night without stopping. But if the train keeps stopping and starting again, that’s sleep fragmentation, like when the conductor hits the brakes every few minutes just to let you stretch your legs.

When this happens a lot, it can make you feel tired even after a full night's sleep. It's like taking lots of tiny naps instead of one big, happy nap!
