What is shorter?

A shorter thing takes up less space from one end to the other than a longer one.

Imagine you have two pencils on your desk, one is the size of a regular pencil, and the other is half that length. The shorter pencil fits in your hand easily, while the longer one might stick out if you hold it like a sword. So, shorter means something doesn’t go as far from end to end.

Pencil Time

Let’s compare them side by side:

  • A regular pencil is about 18 centimeters long.
  • A shorter pencil might be only 9 centimeters, just half the length!

It’s like walking a short path versus a long one. If you take fewer steps, your path is shorter.

Block Stacking

Now think of building blocks. If you stack two blocks on top of each other, that’s not as high as stacking four blocks. The tower with two blocks is shorter, it doesn’t reach as far up.

So, when something is shorter, it takes less space from one end to the other, like a little pencil or a small block tower!
