Short-range means something works well when it’s close by, just like your favorite toy works best when you’re holding it.
Imagine you have a remote control for your TV. When you’re sitting right next to the TV, you can press the buttons and it turns on easily. But if you run all the way to the other side of the room, sometimes the TV doesn’t hear you, that’s because the signal is weaker when you're far away.
Like a Whisper vs. a Yell
Think about how you talk to your friend in class. If they’re sitting next to you, you can just whisper and they’ll still hear you. But if they’re at the back of the room, you might need to shout so they can hear you over all the noise.
Short-range is like that whisper, it only works well when things are close together. It’s used in lots of everyday stuff, like cell phones talking to each other, or bluetooth headphones connecting to your phone. They don’t need to be far apart to work well, just close enough for the "whisper" to reach!

- A walkie-talkie that only works in the park, not across town.
- A phone call that drops if you leave the house.
