What is SDSS?

SDSS is like a giant photo album that helps scientists learn about the universe by taking pictures of stars and galaxies far away.

Imagine you're looking at a night sky with your eyes, you see some bright dots, but you can’t tell much else. Now imagine having a super powerful camera that takes pictures of the whole sky, one piece at a time, like putting together a big puzzle. That’s what SDSS does, it takes lots of pictures so scientists can study stars, galaxies, and even how the universe is growing up.

Like a Sky Detective

Think of SDSS as a detective who goes around the sky taking notes. It uses special tools to measure not just how bright things are, but also how far away they are. This helps scientists figure out where everything in the universe came from and how it’s changing over time, kind of like watching a movie about the birth of the universe!

With every picture SDSS takes, it adds more clues to this big mystery we call space. And that's how we get to know our universe better, one photo at a time!
