What is scary? It’s when something you don’t expect comes up and makes your heart go thump-thump.
Imagine you’re playing in your room, and everything feels cozy, your favorite blanket, the soft light from the lamp. Then all of a sudden, you hear a loud noise, BOOM!, and the lights go out. It’s dark everywhere, and you can’t see anything. That’s when you feel scared, because you don’t know what is in the dark with you.
What Makes Something Scary?
Unexpected things are often the biggest surprises. Like if you’re eating your favorite snack, and all of a sudden, something goes BRRR* behind you, it could be your brother trying to scare you, or maybe just the cat jumping on the table!
Also, not knowing what’s coming next makes things feel more scary. It’s like when you’re hiding from your mom in the closet, you can’t see her, and you don’t know when she’ll find you. That waiting time is what feels so spooky.
Sometimes, even something familiar can be scary if it acts strange or different, just like a friendly monster who suddenly starts growling!
