Sacrifice is when you give up something important to help someone else or make things better for everyone.
Imagine you have a favorite toy, maybe it's a red car that zooms around your room like a superhero. One day, your little brother wants to play with it too. If you let him have the car, you might feel sad because it’s your favorite. But if you give it to him, he’ll be happy, and maybe he’ll share his blue dinosaur with you later. That's sacrifice, giving up your toy now so someone else can be happy, even if it means you have to wait a little longer for your turn.
Why we do it
Sometimes people sacrifice things they love because it helps others or makes life easier for everyone. Like when a parent stays up late to make sure their child has a good breakfast before school, the parent might not get enough sleep, but that’s sacrifice too! It's like sharing your favorite snack with a friend so they can be happy and have energy for playtime.
