What is rotation?

Rotation is when something turns around a center point, like a spinning top or a door opening.

Imagine you're holding a plate and spinning it in your hands, that's rotation! The plate moves in a circle, but it doesn’t go anywhere far; it just keeps turning. Every part of the plate moves in the same way, like they’re all dancing together around the middle.

Think about a door. When you push it open, it swings on its hinges, that’s rotation too! The whole door turns around the hinge, which is like the center point. One side of the door moves forward while the other stays attached to the frame.

Grab a pencil and hold it in the middle. Now twist your wrist, the pencil spins around its center. That’s rotation at work! You can feel how each end of the pencil moves, even though the middle stays still.

You see rotation everywhere: wheels spinning on cars, fans whirring above you, or even when you turn your body to look around. It's just something turning in a circle, simple and fun!
