What is Restitution?

Restitution is when something that was taken back goes to its original owner.

Imagine you have a favorite toy, let's say it’s a red dinosaur that roars really loudly. One day, your friend borrows it without asking and doesn’t return it. That makes you sad because you miss playing with your dinosaur. But then, your friend realizes they were wrong and gives the dinosaur back to you. That act of giving it back is restitution.

Like Sharing a Snack

Think about sharing a snack at lunchtime. If your classmate takes your chocolate bar without asking, and later gives it back because they felt bad, that’s also restitution. It's like saying, “I took something from you, but now I'm giving it back so things can be fair again.”

Restitution isn’t just about toys or snacks, it happens everywhere when someone returns what was taken. It helps make everything feel more fair and friendly!
