What is reproduction?

Reproduction is when living things make more living things just like themselves.

Imagine you have a favorite toy that can copy itself, every time it copies, it makes another exactly like it. That’s kind of how reproduction works! Some living things, like people or dogs, make new ones by having babies. Other living things, like plants or bugs, might just grow more of themselves from one part.

How It Happens

Some living things need help to reproduce, like a mom and dad. They share special parts (like seeds in plants or eggs in birds) that join together to make a new life.

Other living things can do it all by themselves, like a worm splitting into two, or a plant growing from a leaf that fell on the ground. It’s like having a copy machine inside you!

So whether they need help or not, reproduction is how living things pass on their special traits to make new ones, just like how you can grow up to be like your parents, but still be you.
