Relatedness is when things are connected because they come from the same group or family.
Imagine you have a big box of crayons, all different colors, but some are similar because they're from the same brand or even the same pack. That’s relatedness! It's like having siblings: you’re not exactly the same as your brother or sister, but you share some traits because you both came from the same parents.

Or Like Friends in the Same Class
Or think of friends in the same class: even if they don’t all live in the same neighborhood, they’re still connected because they're part of the same group, like a team or a club. That's relatedness too!
So whether it’s family, friends, or even crayons, relatedness is about being linked to others through shared origins or traits, just like you and your sibling share some things, but also have your own special parts too!
Examples
- A brother and sister have biological relatedness because they share some of the same genes.
- Pets in the same litter are related because they come from the same parents.
- Cousins are less closely related than siblings but still share some common ancestors.
