What is realistic?

Realistic means something that could actually happen or be true in real life, not just a dream or a made-up idea.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy car. If you say, “My car can fly to the moon,” that’s fun, but it's not realistic, because cars don’t usually fly, and they definitely don't go all the way to the moon.

But if you say, “My car went fast down the hallway,” that is realistic, because your toy car really can zoom along the floor like that every day!

What Makes Something Realistic?

  • Realistic things are ones you can see, touch, or experience in your everyday life.
  • Not realistic means something is more like a story or a game, it’s fun, but not what happens all the time.

Think of it this way: If you're drawing a picture, and you color the sky green, that’s okay. But if you say “The sun is green,” that's not realistic, because we know the sun is usually yellow or orange!
