What is RAM?

RAM is like a super-fast notebook that your computer uses to remember things while it’s working.

Imagine you’re playing with building blocks. Every time you want to add a new block, you need a spot on the table to put it. If the table is full, you have to move some blocks aside so there’s room for the new one. That’s like how RAM works, your computer uses it to hold information it needs right now.

RAM stands for Random Access Memory, and it's where your computer keeps things it's actively using, like the game you're playing or the picture you’re drawing on the screen.

How RAM helps your computer

When you open a new app, your computer moves that app’s information from a slower storage place (like a big shelf in the back of the room) to RAM, making it easier and faster to use.

If there's not enough space in RAM, your computer has to work harder to make room, which can slow things down, just like if you had too many blocks on your table and had to keep moving them around every time you wanted to add a new one!

  1. A child uses building blocks to quickly build and rearrange structures, just like RAM helps a computer work fast by storing information temporarily.
