What is racism?

Racism is when people treat others unfairly because of their skin color or where they’re from.

Imagine you and your friend are playing in a park. You both want to ride the swings, but someone says, “Only kids with brown skin can use this swing.” That’s not fair, it doesn’t matter what color your skin is; you should all be able to play!

Why It Happens

Sometimes people think that because someone has a different skin color, they are better or worse at something. But that's not true, everyone has strengths and weaknesses, no matter where they're from.

It’s like if someone said only kids who eat chocolate ice cream can join the soccer team. That doesn’t make sense, right? Why should what you eat decide what you can do?

It Can Be Fixed

Just like you can fix a broken toy by putting it back together, people can fix racism by being kind and fair to everyone, no matter their skin color or where they come from.
