What is quarter-hour?

A quarter-hour is like one piece of a pizza that’s cut into four equal slices, it’s one-fourth of an hour.

Imagine you have a clock with hands moving around it, and every time the minute hand goes all the way around, that’s 60 minutes, or one hour. If we split that hour into four parts, each part is a quarter-hour, which equals 15 minutes.

How It Works

Think of your favorite snack time, if you eat one slice of pizza every 15 minutes, after four slices, you’ve eaten for an entire hour! That’s how a quarter-hour works: it's just like eating one slice of that pizza clock.

When the minute hand moves from 12 to 3 on the clock face, that’s one quarter-hour, and it takes 15 minutes. If it keeps going all the way around, you’ve had four quarter-hours, or a full hour!

So next time you're waiting for something fun, remember: every 15 minutes is like eating another slice of pizza on your clock!
