What is protest?

Protest is when people come together to say they disagree with something and want it to change.

Imagine you're at a playground, and all your friends are playing on the swings, but one of them won't stop pulling the chains so no one else can swing. You and your friends get upset and decide to all go up to that friend and say, "Please stop!" That’s like a protest, you’re all working together to make something better.

Like a Loud Group Chat

Sometimes, people protest by standing in one place and shouting or holding signs. It's like when your whole class sends the teacher a group message saying, "We want more recess!" The louder you are, the more attention the person in charge gets, just like how your teacher might listen if everyone in class says the same thing.

When Everyone Wants Something Different

Sometimes, people protest because they all want different things. Maybe one kid wants a longer recess and another wants a new slide. But together, they can make their voices heard, even if they don’t agree on everything.
