Proportion is when two things are similar in size or amount compared to each other.
Imagine you have a small juice box and a big water bottle. If they both hold the same amount of liquid, we say they’re in proportion, even though one looks bigger than the other.
Like Sharing Candy
Let’s say you and your friend are sharing candy. If you get 2 pieces and your friend gets 4, that's a proportion of 1 to 2, because for every piece you get, your friend gets twice as much.
Now imagine if both of you got the same number of candies. That would be a proportion of 1 to 1, equal sharing!
Proportion in Real Life
When you're baking, proportion helps too! If a recipe says 2 cups of flour for every 1 cup of sugar, that’s a proportion. So if you double the recipe, you’ll need 4 cups of flour and 2 cups of sugar, still keeping the same tasty balance!
Proportion is like a special kind of fairness in numbers or sizes, something we use all the time, whether we're sharing candy, baking cookies, or comparing juice boxes!
