Polytheism is when people believe there are many gods instead of just one.
Imagine you have a favorite toy box, it's full of your favorite toys: cars, dolls, blocks, and maybe even a robot. Each toy has its own special powers or jobs. That’s kind of like polytheism! In some cultures, people think the world is run by many gods, each with their own roles. Some might control the weather, others might help you sleep better at night, and some might even decide if your ice cream will melt fast or slow.
How It Works in Real Life
In ancient Greece, for example, they had a whole team of gods, Zeus was like the boss of all the gods, while Poseidon ruled the seas. People would pray to these gods for help with farming, fighting, or even love. It’s like having different superheroes working together to keep everything running smoothly.
Sometimes people might even have little shrines in their homes for their favorite god, just like you might have a special spot for your most prized toy!
Examples
- In India, people pray to multiple gods like Vishnu, Shiva, and Ganesha.
