How Poetry Works
Poetry often uses rhythm, the pattern of how words sound when spoken out loud. Think of it like a heartbeat: ba-dum, ba-dum. Some poems even rhyme, which means certain words at the end of lines sound similar, like “day” and “away.”
Why People Write Poetry
People write poetry to share feelings they can’t always say in regular sentences. It’s like drawing with colors, instead of using crayons, they use words. A poem about a rainy day might make you feel calm or happy, just like watching raindrops fall on your window.
Poetry is everywhere, in stories, songs, even messages from friends! You don’t need to be a poet to enjoy it; sometimes the best poems come from kids who are just being silly or thoughtful.
