Pitch is how high or low a sound feels.
Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy car. When it goes vroom-vroom fast on the floor, that’s like a high pitch, it sounds quick and bright, like when you laugh really hard. But when the car slows down and rumbles grrrr, that’s a low pitch, it feels deep and slow, like when you take a big breath before shouting.
Now think of your voice. When you sing the song “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” you go up and down in sound. The words “twinkle” are usually higher, while “little star” is lower. That’s how pitch works, it changes depending on how fast or slow your voice (or any sound) moves.
If you hit a drum softly, the sound feels low and sleepy. But if you hit it hard, it sounds high and bouncy, just like when you jump up and down really fast!
So pitch is all about how fast or slow the sound waves are moving, kind of like how fast your toy car zooms around!
