What is pistil?

A pistil is the female part of a flower that helps make new plants.

Imagine you're playing with building blocks, each block has its own job. The pistil is like the special block in a flower where seeds are made. It's usually in the middle of the flower and looks a bit like a tiny tower or a finger.

How it works

The pistil has three parts, just like a small house:

  • The bottom part is called the ovary, which holds the eggs, these are like little seeds waiting to grow.
  • Above that is the style, kind of like a hallway leading up to the stigma at the top.
  • The stigma is sticky, and it catches pollen from the flower's male parts.

When pollen lands on the stigma, it travels down through the style to meet the eggs in the ovary. That’s when magic-like things start happening, new seeds are made!

So next time you see a flower, remember: the pistil is like the flower's special room where babies (seeds) are born.
