Like a cookie with a bite taken out
Imagine you're playing in the park near a lake. Peninsula is like that big piece of land that’s attached to the mainland by a small strip, just like how your cookie is still connected to the rest of it even after you take a bite. That small strip could be a narrow road, or maybe even a beach, something you can walk across.
It's not an island
If Peninsula were an island, it would be completely surrounded by water, like when you put a toy boat in a bathtub and it floats all around. But Peninsula is still connected to the mainland, kind of like how your foot is still attached to your leg even if you're wearing socks!
Examples
- A peninsula is like a finger of land sticking out into the sea, such as Florida in the United States.
