What is ovality?

Ovality is when something that should be round ends up looking more like a squashed circle, like an egg or a football.

Imagine you have a perfect circle, like a pizza. Now, if you gently press your hands on opposite sides of it and push inwards, the circle becomes longer on one side and shorter on the other, that's ovality!

Like a Stretched Pancake

Think about a pancake. If you cook it just right, it’s nice and round. But if it gets a little too hot on one side, it might stretch out into an oval, like a flattened egg.

Or picture your favorite toy, maybe a round ball. If it gets squished between two hands or rolled down a hill, it might turn from a circle to an oval, just like when you roll a marble and it gets a little flat on the bottom.

Ovality is everywhere! You can find it in soccer balls, race tracks, even glasses. It’s just a circle that got a little squished or stretched, nothing too fancy, just like when you play with your toys and make funny shapes on the floor.
