An outie is like a belly button that sticks out instead of going in.
Imagine your tummy is a pouch. Most people have an innie, which means their belly button goes inside the pouch, like when you push your hand into a bag and pull it up around your wrist. But if your belly button is an outie, it's like the pouch has a little tab sticking out, something that’s outside the pouch.
How It Works
When you're a baby, your belly button is like a脐带 (a string) that connects you to your mom. When that string falls off, some people heal in a way that makes their belly button go inside, and others heal so it stays out, just like when you glue a sticker on a piece of paper sometimes it sticks up, and sometimes it lies flat.
Why It Matters
Some kids think outies are cooler because they look different. Others think innies are better because they’re more common. Either way, both kinds of belly buttons are just parts of your body that show how you grew up, like a tiny fingerprint only on your tummy!
Examples
- A child asks, 'Why does my belly button stick out?'
- Someone points at their own belly button and says, 'Look, I have an outie!'
- A teacher shows a diagram of the human body to explain why some people have outies.
