What is Off the ice?

"Off the ice" is when players leave the playing area to take a break or make a change during a game.

Imagine you're playing tag on the playground. When someone gets tagged, they have to stop running and go sit out for a while. That's kind of like what happens off the ice, players step away from the action to rest, get advice from their coach, or switch places with another player who is ready to come in.

Why They Go Off the Ice

Sometimes, a player gets tired or needs a moment to catch their breath. Other times, they might be substituted so someone else can play instead. This helps keep the game fair and exciting for everyone involved.

Think of it like swapping out your favorite toy during a long game, you take a break while someone else plays with it for a bit. Then, when you're ready, you come back in and grab your toy again!

When they're off the ice, players can chat with their friends on the team or even laugh and have fun, just like kids do at recess.
