What is NTP?

NTP is like having a clock buddy who makes sure all your clocks are always in sync.

Imagine you have a bunch of toys that tick like little clocks, some on your nightstand, some on your tablet, and one even on the fridge. Sometimes they all agree on what time it is, but sometimes they get confused and start ticking at different speeds. That’s not fun!

NTP, or Network Time Protocol, is like a clock buddy who lives on the internet. It checks in with every clock and says: “Hey, are you sure that’s the right time?” If something doesn’t match up, it helps them all agree again.

Think of NTP as the time police officer for your clocks, making sure everything stays on track so you never miss your favorite show or get confused about when bedtime is. Without NTP, your clocks might start to tick in a funny dance, and that would be a little hard to follow!
