What is New Year’s Eve?

New Year’s Eve is the last day of the year, and people celebrate it by saying goodbye to the old year and getting ready for the new one.

Imagine you have a favorite toy that you play with every day. On New Year’s Eve, it's like you're giving that toy a big hug and telling it, "Thank you for being my friend this year!" Then you put it away, because tomorrow is going to be a brand-new toy, or maybe even a bigger one!

People often have special parties on New Year’s Eve. They might wear fun clothes, eat tasty food, and sing songs together. Sometimes they count down from 10 to 1, like this: 10... 9... 8... all the way to 1! Then, BOOM!, it's a new year!

Sometimes, people light up big fireworks in the sky, like bright, colorful stars bursting open. It’s like having a giant party in the sky just for you.

When the clock strikes midnight, that means the old year is gone and the new one has started, just like turning the page of a storybook!
