What is NATO?

NATO is like a group of friends who all promise to help each other if someone tries to bother them.

NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It was created a long time ago by many countries, mostly in Europe and North America. These countries became allies, which means they are close friends who work together.

Like a Team of Friends

Imagine you're playing soccer with your best friends. If another team starts to tease or push you around, your friends will all stand up for you, that's what being an ally is like!

NATO works the same way. If one country gets into trouble, maybe from another country trying to take over, then the other countries in NATO will help them.

A Big Group

There are 30 countries in NATO now, and they all follow a special promise called the North Atlantic Treaty. This treaty says that if any of them needs help, others will come to their aid. It's like having 30 friends who always have your back, no matter what!

That’s why NATO is so strong: it’s not just one country fighting alone, but many working together!
