Multi-sensory integration is when your brain puts together clues from more than one sense at the same time to help you understand what's going on around you.
Imagine you're playing with a toy car. You see it zooming across the floor, and you hear it vroom-vroom as it goes. Your brain takes those two pieces of information, what you see and what you hear, and combines them so you know exactly where the car is and how fast it’s moving.
Like a Teamwork Party
Think of your senses like friends who are all working together at a party. When you touch something, that's one friend (your touch sense). When you see something, that's another friend (vision), and when you hear something, that’s a third friend (hearing).
Your brain is the host who makes sure everyone talks at the same time so you can understand what’s happening. If your friends all speak one after another, it might be confusing, but if they all talk together, it's much easier to follow the story.
So when your brain brings all these clues together, that’s multi-sensory integration in action!
Examples
