March 14th is Pi Day, a special day to celebrate the number pi (we say pie).
What Is Pi?
Imagine you have a round pizza. If you measure around the outside of it, that’s the circumference. If you measure across the middle from one edge to the other, that’s the diameter. Pi is what happens when you divide the circumference by the diameter, no matter how big or small your pizza is!
Why Do We Care?
Pi helps us do cool things like figure out the area of a circle, design wheels, and even send rockets into space. It's kind of like a special number that connects all round things in our world.
So on March 14th, 3/14, people around the world eat pie (or pizza) to remember pi and have fun with math!
