What is marbling?

Marbling is when fat inside meat looks like clouds or swirls, making it look pretty and tasty.

Imagine you have a piece of beef, think about the red, juicy kind you get in a sandwich. If you look really closely, sometimes there are little white bits inside that look like whipped cream or marshmallows. That’s marbling, and it's made from fat.

Why marbling matters

When you cook meat with lots of marbling, the fat melts and mixes with the meat, making it juicy and tender, like how a cookie gets soft when it has butter inside.

If there’s not much marbling, the meat can feel dry, like a cracker. But if there's a lot, it feels more like a chocolate chip cookie, full of flavor and texture.

So next time you see meat that looks like it has little clouds inside, remember: that’s marbling, and it makes your meal extra good!
