Light and matter are friends that play together all day long, just like you and your toys.
What is light?
Think about a flashlight in the dark. When you turn it on, it sends out light, which helps you see things around you. Light is like invisible little messengers traveling from one place to another, when they reach our eyes, we can see colors and shapes.
What is matter?
Matter is everything you can touch, your shoes, your favorite snack, even the air you're breathing! It's made up of tiny building blocks called particles. These particles are like little bricks that stack together to make up all the things around us.
When light meets matter, it can bounce off, go through, or even be blocked by it, just like how a ball might roll across the floor, go through a hoop, or get stopped by a wall. That’s why we can see some things clearly and not others, it's all part of their playtime! Light and matter are friends that play together all day long, just like you and your toys.
Examples
- Light from the sun helps plants grow, just as food helps humans grow.
- When you shine a flashlight in a dark room, it shows how light travels through space.
