What is Life?

Life is when things grow, change, and move on their own, just like you do every day.

Life means a thing can grow, move, or change without being told to. Think of your favorite toy that moves by itself, like a robot or a toy car that zooms around the room. That’s kind of like how some living things work!

A living thing usually:

• Eats (like you eat snacks)
• Moves (like you run or jump)
• Grows (like your hair gets longer)

Sometimes, they also have babies, just like you will someday.

Inside every living thing are tiny workers called cells. These cells work together like a team of helpers in a big factory, one group might be responsible for making food, another might help the body move, and so on. You can think of them like the people in a playground, all doing their own jobs to keep things going.
