What is length?

Length is how long something is from one end to the other.

Imagine you have a snake that's curled up on your bed. If it stretches out all the way from the head of the bed to the foot, that’s its length, like a stretchy measuring tape made of scales!

Measuring with Steps

You can think about length like counting steps. If you walk from your door to your kitchen, each step you take is part of the distance, or length, between those two places. A big kid might take fewer steps than a little kid, that’s why we use things like rulers and tape measures to be fair.

Length in Everyday Things

Your favorite toy car has a length too! If it's parked next to your block tower, you can line them up side by side and see which one is longer. Sometimes, you even use length when you're drawing, the longer the line you make, the more space it takes on the paper!

So, whenever something goes from here to there, that’s its length, just like your arms stretch out when you give a hug!
