What is José de San Martín?

José de San Martín was a brave leader who helped free many people from being controlled by another country.

Imagine you're playing a big game of tag with your friends. You’re all running around, trying to catch each other, but there's one person who's really good at hiding and making it hard for the others to win. That person is like the king in this story: he’s in charge of everything, and people have to follow his rules.

Now imagine a group of friends who decide they want to stop playing by those rules, they want to be free! José de San Martín was one of the main people who helped lead that group. He was like the captain of a team, guiding others across tough paths and big mountains, kind of like how you walk from your house to school every day.

He had a special way of moving his troops: he would go over mountains with horses and soldiers, just like how you might climb a hill in the park. His goal was to help people be free, not have to follow someone else's rules anymore, and that’s what made him an amazing hero.
