What is Iron (Fe)?

Iron is a strong metal that we use to make many things in our lives.

Iron, which has the symbol Fe, is like a super-strong friend who helps build everything from cars to bridges, and even the nails in your favorite toy box.

What Iron Looks Like

If you’ve ever seen a shiny nail or a big bolt, that’s probably made of iron. It's usually grayish in color and feels solid when you touch it. When it gets hot, like when you cook with a cast iron pan, it can get really warm, almost like the sun!

What Iron Can Do

Iron is special because it can hold on to other things, like how your favorite backpack holds all your toys. Scientists call this strength. Also, if you put iron in water and let it sit for a while, it can change color, kind of like when your cereal gets soggy and changes shape.

Iron is everywhere around us, helping build the world we live in, just like a strong friend always helps out!
