What is ipsilateral?

Ipsilateral means something is on the same side of your body as another thing.

Imagine you're holding a toy in your right hand. If someone else holds a toy in their right hand too, those two toys are ipsilateral, they’re both on the same side.

Now picture yourself sitting at a table with your friend. You both have cookies in front of you. Your cookie and your friend’s cookie are bilateral, one is on your side, one is on their side.

But if you and your friend both have cookies in front of you, then those two cookies are ipsilateral, they're both on the same side of the table!

It's like having two friends sitting next to each other at a party, they’re both on the same side of the room. That’s ipsilateral too.

So, remember: ipsilateral = same side, and it helps us describe where things are in relation to each other!
