What is Indo-European?

Indo-European is like a big family that has many cousins who speak different languages but all come from the same place.

Imagine you have a favorite toy box. Inside, there are blocks, balls, and cars, each one is different, but they all belong to you. Indo-European is like that toy box: it has lots of languages in it, like English, Spanish, French, Russian, and even Hindi. All these languages have a special connection because they come from the same ancient language, which we call Proto-Indo-European.

How It Spreads

A long time ago, people who spoke this ancient language started to move around, some went east, others went west, and others went south. As they traveled, their language changed a bit in each new place, like how your voice changes when you talk in the shower or on the playground.

So now we have many languages that are related, kind of like cousins who all remember playing together in the toy box, even though they each have different toys and favorite games.
