What is immunodeficiency?

Immunodeficiency is when your body’s defense system isn’t working as well as it should.

Imagine your body is like a castle, and the immune system is the group of guards who protect it from invaders, like germs or viruses. Normally, these guards are strong and quick to spot trouble. But if someone has immunodeficiency, it's like some of those guards are tired, sleepy, or missing altogether. That means it’s easier for bad guys (like colds or infections) to get inside the castle, and it might take longer for your body to kick them out.

How It Feels

If you have immunodeficiency, you might catch colds more easily or take longer to get better. Sometimes, even little things like a scraped knee can turn into bigger problems because your body’s defense system is working harder than usual.

Why It Happens

Sometimes people are born with immunodeficiency, it's like they were given a castle with fewer guards from the start. Other times, something happens to make the immune system weaker, like certain medicines or illnesses.

So, think of your immune system as your body’s superhero team, and immunodeficiency is when some of them take a break!
