What is Imbolc?

Imbolc is a special time when we celebrate the start of spring and the light returning after winter.

Imbolc happens around February 1st or 2nd, right in the middle of winter, but just before things begin to warm up again. It's like when you're stuck inside with your blanket on, and suddenly you notice that the sun feels a little brighter, and maybe even a flower starts to peek out from under the snow.

A Little Bit Like Starting a Fire

Imagine it’s cold outside, and you’ve been huddled by the fire all winter. Then one day, you light a match, snap!, and suddenly there's a tiny flame. That little bit of fire is like Imbolc, it’s the first sign that things are going to get warmer and brighter again.

People often use this time to welcome new beginnings, just like when you start a new school year or learn something exciting new. It’s not about magic; it's about noticing changes in the world around you, like how the days get longer, or how you can see your breath in the air less and less each day.

Imbolc is a warm, friendly reminder that even after the coldest parts of winter, spring is just around the corner.
